Description of MS M.700 fol. 5r

Medallion 1:
Month, Occupation: January -- Three-faced Janus, crowned, drinks from goblet in right hand and horn in left hand and sits behind draped table on which are two vessels and bowl containing fish. Gold background.
Medallion 2:
Zodiac Sign: Nude male figure issues stream of water from mouth and pours water from vessel (jar) in each hand. Background decorated with foliate ornament.
Medallions at ends of horizontal foliate bars in top and bottom margins of Calendar. Fantastic animal (dragon) in left margin.
