Evangelist, John: on Patmos -- Evangelist John, decorated nimbus, sits among three trees on Patmos. He writes with stylus, held in right hand, in book, held in lap with left hand. To right, eagle holds scroll, inscribed S. IOHANNAM, in beak. Below, swan swims around island. Above Evangelist John, God, crossed-nimbed, bearded, appears in arc of heaven from which rays of light emanate. Scene set in landscape with two men rowing boat toward hills surmounted by buildings, including a windmill and castle.
