Christ: bearing Cross -- Christ, rayed nimbus, wearing crown of thorns and purple garment, bears tau cross over shoulder. Simon of Cyrene grasps lower end of cross. Veronica of Rome, nimbed and veiled, kneeling before Christ, extends veil held in both hands towards Him. He grasps it with right hand. Two horsemen and two soldiers, one carrying halberd, follow along. Scene framed by border decorated with flowers, including viola and columbine, and inhabited by butterflies, caterpillars, and two birds, one grasping caterpillar and the other spreading its wings.
