MS M.791 fol. 4v
1) Trinity: Two Persons flanking Dove -- God, with crossed, pearled nimbus, his arms reaching out to sides, is seated on cushioned bench next to Christ, with crossed scalloped nimbus, raising right hand and extending left. Christ is within mantle of God. Dove of Holy Ghost, cross-nimbed, is between them. All are within quatrefoil; God grasps left side of quatrefoil with His right hand and Christ grasps right side with His left hand. They are flanked by Nine Choirs of angels, all with pearled nimbi, emerging from clouds. Below, four devils, winged, fall headlong (Angel: Fall). 2) At right are four Rivers of Paradise, inscribed, one legible, EVFRATES, each encircling cities from each of which heads of men emerge. Cities are inscribed, two legible, PERSE and ETHIOPIA. Between the four cities are foliate ornament, animals and birds. 3) Creation Scene -- At left, dove flies above disk on which earth is represented surrounded by waters. Disk is supported by six angels, with pearled nimbi. 4) Creation Scene: 1st Day -- Christ-Logos, cross-nimbed, holding roll in left hand and raising right hand, stands before eight angels, seven with pearled nimbi, and two holding flaming torches. All enclosed within medallion formed by fantastic animal, the head of which bites frame. 5) Creation Scene: 2nd Day -- Within medallion, Christ-Logos, with crossed, pearled nimbus, holding book in draped left hand, raises right hand toward disk on which firmament is represented above waters surrounding earth. 6) Creation Scene: 3rd Day -- Within medallion surrounding circle of water, Christ-Logos, with crossed, pearled nimbus, raises right hand and extends left hand toward two trees. 7) Creation Scene: 4th Day -- Christ-Logos with crossed, pearled nimbus, His left hand draped, raises right hand toward firmament in which are stars, and heads of personifications of sun and moon above trees surrounded by waters. All enclosed within medallion formed by fantastic animal, the head of which bites frame. 8) Creation Scene: 5th Day -- Within medallion, Christ-Logos, cross-nimbed, holding roll in left hand, raises right hand toward three birds flying in firmament above two other birds, two animals and trees, surrounded by water. 9) Creation Scene: 6th Day and Eve: Creation -- Within medallion, five animals, including sheep and goat, stand next to tree behind Christ-Logos, cross-nimbed, raising right hand and with left hand possibly drawing Eve from side of Adam reclining beside tree. Scenes and figures against background of gold, decorated with vine scroll, some of which is inhabited by animals. In frame is ornament of greek key; head of man is in each corner. |

1) Moses: communicating with God -- Christ-Logos, cross-nimbed, raising right hand, appears in opening of Tabernacle of Israel beside Moses wearing hat, holding flowering rod in left hand. 2) Moses: Rebellion of Korah or Moses: Census -- Aaron, wearing hat, raising right hand, stands behind Moses, wearing hat, who holds flowering rod in right hand and with left hand indicates Korah (?), right hand raised, standing opposite with three men. 3) Moses: Destruction of Korah -- Cloud-edged arc of heaven is above falling buildings and eight falling figures being swallowed by earth. 4) Moses: smiting Rock -- Aaron, wearing cap, raising right hand, stands behind Moses, wearing cap, holding flowering rod in right hand, with left hand indicating stream from which two animals are drinking. Opposite are five Israelites. 5) Balaam: Balak sending Messengers -- Balak, crowned, raising right hand and holding sword in left hand is seated, flanked by two messengers, one holding staff. 6) Balaam: opposed by Angel -- Beside saddled ass, Balaam, wearing cap, holding tau-staff in right hand, extends left hand toward angel, nimbed, raising right hand. Scenes within initial L against background of gold, decorated with foliate ornament inhabited by fantastic animals. Beside medallions, two soldiers, one wearing cap, holding sword in right hand and shield in left and the other wearing helmet, raising right hand and holding shield in left hand. 1) Moses: teaching -- Moses, wearing hat, is seated with legs crossed, holding Tables of Law in left hand and raising right hand toward six Israelites standing before him. 2) Moses and Joshua: in Tabernacle -- Joshua, extending hand, stands behind Moses, wearing cap, holding Tables of Law in left hand and raising right hand toward Christ-Logos, with crossed pearled nimbus, emerging from pillar of cloud, to right of medallion. Tabernacle is not represented. 3) Moses: Death and Moses: Burial -- Moses, wearing cap, raising right hand, holding Table of Law in draped left hand, stands looking toward Christ-Logos, cross-nimbed, raising right hand and holding book in left hand. He is flanked by five men and by Zadok and Nathan, each with right hand on crown and each holding vessel in left hand. 4) Solomon: petitioned by Bathsheba and Adonijah: Death -- Bathsheba, veiled, seated, extends right hand hand toward David, crowned, holding foliate scepter in right hand and indicating Bathsheba with left hand, seated on bench. Behind Bathsheba are four men, one possibly holding upturned sword. 1) Antiochus IV: commanding Sacrifices -- Antiochus IV, crowned, semi-reclines on mattress with head on pillow, raising right hand toward five men, two of whom hold swords. 2) Maccabees: Battle -- At right are two opposing groups of four soldiers, helmeted and wearing chain mail tunics, mounted on saddled horses. Two raise swords, three have lances, five have shields. Three heads of soldiers are on ground. 3) Maccabees: Battle -- At bottom, of four soldiers, one carries sword, two have shields, and two blow trumpets. They are behind mounted soldier holding lowered bannered lance in right hand and shield in left. He charges group of five (?) fleeing mounted soldiers, two carrying shields, one grasping the lance.
