Searching Tips

• Enter a word such as rabbit or dragon.
• Truncation is automatic: rabbit finds rabbit and rabbits.
• Search terms containing more than one word will be searched as a phrase: virgin mary.
• To combine two search terms, enter each word in a separate box, and click on the AND OR or NOT button.  
  • spear OR sword finds all images that depict either a spear or a sword
  • virgin mary AND elizabeth finds all images that depict the Virgin Mary and Elizabeth

Note on names:

The name "Jesus" does not appear in descriptions of images. Use the search term Christ instead.

Saints' names do not include the title "Saint". When searching for a specific saint, enter the given name in the first search box, and a qualifier, if you know it, in the second search box:

peter AND apostle
george AND cappadocia
